Team, here’s a breakdown of this Gold long setup and the confluences behind the entry.
The idea was to identify a potential bullish reversal, wait for price to react from the planned area, and use buy-side liquidity as the objective.
1. Higher Timeframe Context
I started with the higher timeframe to understand the broader structure and identify the important areas where price could potentially react.
This gave me the context for the trade before looking for an entry on the lower timeframe.
2. SMT Divergence
One of the confirmations for the setup was SMT divergence around the low.
I don't use SMT as an automatic buy signal. In this case, it was another piece of evidence supporting the potential bullish reversal.
3. Order Block
The marked Order Block gave me a specific area where I wanted to see price react.
Instead of chasing Gold as it moved higher, the plan was to wait for price to reach the area of interest and look for the setup from there.
4. Buy-Side Liquidity
The BSL above price provided the logical objective for the long.
This is important because I already knew where I wanted price to potentially deliver before entering the position.
Instrument: Gold / XAUUSD
Direction: Long
Setup: SMT + Order Block
Target: Buy-Side Liquidity
The entry was built around the reaction from the identified area after the bullish confluences aligned.
The invalidation belonged below the structure supporting the setup. If price broke through that area and invalidated the bullish idea, there would be no reason to stay in the trade.
On the upside, the objective wasn't a random number of points or dollars.
Buy-side liquidity was already identified as the destination.
That gave the trade a complete structure:
Context → Setup → Confirmation → Entry → Invalidation → Target
The lesson here isn't simply:
“Find an Order Block and buy.”
An Order Block alone isn't enough.
What made this Gold setup interesting was the combination of context, SMT, the Order Block, defined invalidation, and liquidity above the market.
That's the type of process I want traders to develop.
Don't chase every movement on Gold.
Build your idea first. Know what needs to happen for you to enter. Know where you're wrong. And know where price could potentially deliver if you're right.
Higher timeframe context + SMT + Order Block + BSL = a structured Gold setup.
