For this MNQ short, I was looking for a sell setup after price reached an area where liquidity had built up above the recent highs.
I started with the higher-timeframe context before going down to the lower timeframes. The idea was not to short simply because price was high. I wanted to see whether price would take the buy-side liquidity first and then give me confirmation that the bullish move was losing momentum.
Price pushed higher and took the buy-side liquidity (BSL) above the previous highs.
After the liquidity sweep, I monitored the lower timeframe for confirmation. An SMT divergence appeared, giving me another indication that the move higher was not as strong as it initially looked.
From there, price started showing bearish confirmation around the order block, giving me the area where I could structure the short trade.
Instead of entering during the initial move, I waited for the confirmation.
The short was structured with approximately:
Stop Loss: 16.25 points
Target: 39.75 points
Risk-to-Reward: 2.45R
The stop was placed above the invalidation area. If price reclaimed that area, the short idea would no longer be valid.
The target was placed toward the sell-side liquidity (SSL) below.
Price eventually moved aggressively lower and reached the planned target.
The important part of this trade is not the profit.
It's the sequence.
Liquidity → SMT → Order Block → Confirmation → Entry → Defined Risk → Target
A liquidity sweep by itself is not enough reason to enter a trade.
I still want confirmation that the market is actually reacting from that area before taking the position.
This is why I always emphasize having a process. You don't need to predict every move. You need to know what you are looking for, where your idea becomes invalid, and where you expect price to go if the setup works.
