In this trade breakdown, I walk through an MNQ long setup by starting with the higher-timeframe market structure before moving down to the lower timeframes for confirmation and execution.
The first thing I look at is the 4-hour chart. This gives me the bigger picture and helps identify important areas where price may react. In this setup, the H4 order block and surrounding liquidity structure provided the area I was watching for a potential bullish reaction.
From there, I moved down to the 15-minute chart to study how price was reacting around that area. The goal was not simply to buy because price reached an order block. I wanted to see whether the lower-timeframe price action was giving me enough confirmation to consider a long.
I then refined the setup further on the 5-minute timeframe. This allowed me to identify the entry area, define where the setup would be invalidated, and establish a realistic target.
The trade was structured with approximately a 1:2 risk-to-reward ratio, with a 30.50-point stop and a 60.75-point target shown on the chart.
One of the biggest lessons from this trade is that the higher timeframe helps me understand where I want to look, while the lower timeframe helps me determine when I actually want to enter.
An order block by itself is not an automatic entry.
I still want to see how price behaves around the level, whether the market structure supports the idea, and whether the potential reward justifies the risk.
That process helps keep the trade based on a plan rather than simply reacting to a candle.
• Start with the higher timeframe to establish context.
• Mark important liquidity and order-block areas.
• Wait for lower-timeframe confirmation before entering.
• Define the invalidation level before taking the trade.
• Know your target and risk-to-reward before execution.
• Focus on the quality of the setup, not just the final result.
This is an educational breakdown of a completed trade and should not be treated as a live trading signal or guarantee of profit. Trading involves risk.
